Dear Mustang Parent,
I would like to take this chance to introduce myself. My name is Roy Chaney and I am the Aquatics Director at the Manitou Springs Swimming Pool & Fitness Center and Owner/Head Coach of the Colorado Torpedoes Swim Team. I have 30+ years coaching experience in swimming including a combination of 14+ years high school coaching. I have helped swimmers achieve success in swimming including state, Junior Olympic, USA Sectional State qualifiers, Junior Nationals and State record holders. My approach is a combination of stroke technique (which is the highest priority) and race pace conditioning to ready the athlete for competition. If you would like additional information on my background, please visit www.coloradotorpedoes.com.
I look forward to a great season of coaching with the Mustangs.
My approach uses many techniques and race pace training that I have learned over my career. This includes teaching proper balance in the water. Without this crucial balance, a swimmer will have to use part of their arm and leg propulsion to help keep the body in the proper position. This wastes energy and slows the swimmer down by forcing the swimmer to push down on the water and kick harder to keep the hips up. This is not the most effective swimming position. With special drills (some I have developed), I teach the swimmer to find what works for them. In the end, with our guidance, the swimmer will find the right swimming balance and improve strength and endurance through race pace training. Race pace training is the most effective training for swimming and teaches swimmers how to swim fast in the shortest time possible without endless garbage yards. This will lead to success in swimming and the ability for them to reach their maximum swimming potential.
I appreciate your willingness to allow your young lady to participate in our sport and look forward to having a fun and great season. If you need to contact me, you can reach me at 499-1642(city cell-leave message), 685-9735 (w) or via e-mail at [email protected].
See you soon!
